7thDwarf is Back Online

7thDwarf  Gold is now back from the depths of obscurity as we have had to move to a new hosting service and get everything all working again, ugh!

Well, it hasn’t all been fun but it has been games. The transfer to the new server was pretty smooth, as it should be by backing up all my files and then saving them to my computer. Then setting up a new Host and transferring the files by FTP (File Transfer Protocol) to the new host along with the database backup that I have created and sent to my email account on a daily basis.

Sounds all very straightforward and it was, then I clicked my bookmark to open the Admin screen of the blog and NOTHING! Nothing but a page stating that there is no index page or home page or something like that. What! All my files are there, I just saw them on the server and all the links in the configuration file are now pointing to the new server and the database has been checked and rechecked and and and, aahhhhh!

Well then, I must not have something linking properly, what could it be? I know, go check the domain manager and make sure that the DNS  changes (A DNS change allows you to change your Domain Name Server settings for your Domain Names) have been saved and are valid.

Yup! Now open up a chat with support, (They are really great!)  now explain what has been done by me and what I expect to see and what I do actually see.

So, Support go through all the details from my explanation and can see nothing out of the ordinary, it must be that the DNS changes haven’t taken effect yet. Support suggest that I wait until the changes have been given enough time, anywhere from 24 to 72 hours, great!

Wait… Wait… Wait…

72 hours plus and no 7thDwarf blog what the??

Get back in touch with Support! (really good service, I mean it) Tell them what I’ve been doing as far as making changes to the files to get something to happen, and they take a look at how I’ve got the domain pointing manager setup and BINGO!

Yes, IT WAS ME, I did it!

Now we are back online, we need to get a few more links working with some of the internal website functions like email and others so please know that this all getting done in the background and will be all sorted out by the end of the week, hopefully.

In the meantime, if you’ve left a comment and cannot see it or anything else looks wrong  on the site please let me know and I’ll get it put right as fast as possible, thanks.

I’ve got some new downloads and some cool websites I want to tell you about over the coming days and weeks, so stay tuned and I’ll get it all posted as fast as I can.

How to Get the Most From Your Hyperlink Building Efforts

Many website owners use link building in order to publicize and drive more traffic to their sites. The number and quality of backlinks a site has is one of the main ways that the search engines rank websites, which is why link building is such a fundamental online marketing tactic. But the whole link building process isn’t that easy nowadays, especially with the search engines changing their algorithm every now and then. In general, the best approach to building links is to seek one way links. One way links are not the same as reciprocal links, and not as simple to come by. If your goal is to get a high ranking from Google and Yahoo, getting one way links is the best way to accomplish this. If you are looking for some effective link building methods to use for your own business, the following tips will help you.  Local Search Engine Optimization

All backlinks do have some amount of value, but some have more than others; and the second kind have relevance. There are many millions of sites that link to external sites of a totally different subject. As you know, it’s important for search engines to only return relevant results. Search engines tie that into links because they give more weight to a link that is from a relevant site. The thing to ask yourself is how much work do you want to do because relevant links can do more for you than non-relevant. However, it will be worth your time to always try to backlink from relevant sources.

Taking advantage of the article directories is one of the best ways to get valuable one way links to your site. These article directories are seen as “authority websites” by Google and turn out to be a great, no cost way to grow your link popularity. All you have to do is write and submit articles that are relevant to your site to these directories and include a link at the end in the resource box. Submitting articles to directories will get you some visitors who read your article on the directory site, as well as search engine traffic from the backlinks. Furthermore, these links will be coming from content that you’ve created, so you can make optimal use of this.

Another source of backlinks you should take advantage of are relevant blogs. You could ask the moderator if you could write a post for them, or just make a comment with your link. Used consistently, this method can net you a large number of links over time. You won’t succeed overnight with link building, but if you stick with it, you will eventually reach your goals. Don’t be discouraged if you don’t see immediate results. If you can stay focused on your goals, however, you will see your site’s ranking improve.  Web Ranking SEO .com offers full SEO Orlando & optimization services like paid search, local search, nationwide search, ecommerce optimization, link building, lead conversion, social media, blog and video promotion.

Odiogo will read it

If you are a regular reader of this site then you will probably have noticed that I’ve added the new ODIOGO Button to the posts, so when you go to read the articles from now on, you will have the option to ‘just listen’ instead.

Odiogo have created a really cool add-on for your blog that just plugs right in and goes to work right away converting all your written text to audio as an mp3 file that you can just click on the button or download from a few different hosts to make it easy to get any articles you may have missed or wish to listen to later.

When all your posts or articles have been converted, they will then be stored for you by Odiogo (pronounced – audio go ) in a RSS feed that anyone can then access and download the mp3 files to their favourite mp3 player like iTunes or Juice, Zune and also Feed readers like Google, myYahoo, myMSN, myAOL, netvibes or newsgator.

All you need to have is a WordPress blog and you’re good to go, just click on over to Odiogo’s website and sign-up for an account which is free and only takes a minute to get one. Once you’ve got the Odiogo Feed ID, you just need to get the plug-in from their plug-in page and upload it to your WordPress plugin folder.

When you have it in your plugin folder, just activate it and then take a look in your Settings panel on the left side of your admin dashboard and click the “Odiogo Listen Button” link and you’ll find the simple settings that need to be done.

  • Your Odiogo Feed ID: This is the ID number you signed-up for previously, just enter it here.
  • Odiogo Update Service: Notify Odiogo servers when you write a new post (It’s highly recommended to enable this option for faster availability of the audio files of your site)
  • Safe Include: Enable safe include for custom WordPress template (It’s important to enable this option if you’re using a custom WordPress template which does not call wp_head or wp_footer. If unsure leave this option enabled.)
That’s it!
All you need to do now is give it about an hour and you will have all your posts or articles converted to mp3’s which can then be listened to on your site and downloaded from a number of different hosts, how cool is that and you didn’t even have to speak one word of it.

Joining The Internet Revolution Can Be Done At Any Age

One of the really great things about the internet is that age really is no barrier. People of all ages are setting up their own websites or blogs and there are even eighty and ninety year olds who spend time online on a regular basis. This type of technology does not exclude anyone and the great thing is that it has given a voice to people who previously were never heard. As long as you can provide entertainment, there is no factor with what age you are as the internet is the ideal equaliser. People who were adults when Andy Warhol claimed that everyone would be famous for five minutes are now finding the truth in this.

But for many older people, technology is not exactly something they are comfortable with. Because a lot of them hear about things such as viruses or identity theft, they feel that they don’t want to venture into this world as they are too old to get to grips with it. However, for those of us who do use this technology, we know that these risks are often exaggerated by the media and the benefits far outweigh any of these risks. Some people just won’t be convinced that the internet can be used by anyone even though it is true. But those who do give it a go will discover a whole new world.

The online revolution is claiming more and more senior citizens and this is putting a whole new spin on how we view growing old. We can now see that it is possible to be productive for years longer than we ever imagined. There are actually many sixty year olds who are only just beginning to discover their creative side. The internet becomes the best place for them to display their talents once they have discovered their flair. The internet really gives so many people pleasure these days especially as age is no barrier.

As more and more homes today are becoming more computer orientated, many people often find they need some sort of help when issues may arise, for example printer help. And these are not the only issues as network problems can also be a major issue. PC security can also be a headache for some home pc users.

WordPress has evolved

WordPress has evolved and is now in 3.0 for 2010 and is called “Thelonious”, there are many changes to be looked at, especially if you are already a WordPress User! If not, then see why you should be using it.

The most important change that you will want to know about is that of the default theme. It has been redesigned and it’s not some plain old design like the previous Kubrick Theme, no this new theme looks and feels new and that’s probably why it’s called 2010 and also to keep the design fresh it will be more imbarassing to have the 2010 Theme running on a blog when it is 2015. There should be a new default theme every year from now on.

You can now run one blog with WordPress or 100 or 1000 or as many as you wish from this one interface, because of the integration of WordPress and MU or multi-user, it is commonly used for WordPress.com where it serves many millions of hits on many millions of blogs every day, previously a plugin, it is now built-in.

They have integrated the custom header to work on each post or page, so that now you can have a new and different header image on every post or page that you create, cool! Your background can now be customised to have an image or plain colour and also have it centered or tiled.

Menus have been redesigned and now actually dropdown, the no.1 requested feature for a CMS theme. The menus are also able to be moved around where you want them to be with the introduction of the Menu Editor.

Another New feature is they have added custom post tables, introduced to let users create custom elements for each post like, Podcasts, Chats, Video and of course Photos and maybe Quotes; see – kovshenin.com to find the lowdown on this cool feature.

Inside the post editor there is the added feature of Shortlink editor, so that all you need to do is connect with your shortlink site, click a button and create your shortlinks on the fly within the post editor.

There is also something called Custom Taxonomies, what are they? They are a way to group things together like; posts, tags, names, categories, etc…

Finally, You can now Post by eMail which was only available on WordPress.com before. So, loaded with this cool information I have resolved to “Upgrade to WordPress 3.0” and with a little determination and available time I should have the

upgrade completed within a week. I must make sure that I have the time to complete the change-over and make all my BACKUPS, so just in case I make a blunder or my browser crashes or some other unexpected bug comes along, I’ll have time to deal with it there and then.

Watch the videos below to get a better understanding and more detailed look at what WP3.0 has to offer,

the first video is just over 3 min. and the second is the 2010 State of the Word speech at WordCamp San Francisco featuring Matt Mullenweg and is almost 1:15 min.,  so you can just let it load and then skip through if you are short on time or play it and listen to it while you are browsing.

Thelonious is what I’ve been waiting for, it encompasses all that I could have asked for in a Blog/CMS platform and more. See what you think and let me know your comments on weather or not you agree.

How to Blog So Your Internet Marketing Business Brings in More Money

If you incorporate blogging into your business you will benefit from it. There are a lot of bloggers but they donâ€t know how to explain it to the average person. They canâ€t break it down to the average person because they donâ€t know how to teach. At first, you will be intimidated and want to give up or donâ€t even start at all. The good news is that, the more you do it, the easier it becomes. Here are some tips to use along with your blogging that will make your business strategy even more powerful.

Interact with your blogging community. Readers pay attention to things like how much you interact on your own blog. People are looking for useful information and entertainment while on the internet so donâ€t expect them to contribute to your blog if you wonâ€t even acknowledge them. Regular participation will show even the quickest passer-by that you are involved in your site and that you care about the people who take the time to contribute.

Allowing your visitors to sign-up to receive your blog posts by email is another way to keep in touch. This is similar to the process of collecting email addresses in order to send out a newsletter. This is much simpler than a newsletter; the only thing that you will be doing is delivering your new posts to their email address. This technique will make it seem like you are going out of your way to accommodate to your readers.

Send an email to visitors that left a comment on your blog. The easiest way to do this is to have a service or program that does it automatically after a comment is posted to your blog. Itâ€s easy to find a free template or theme to suit you with so many of them available. If you want a custom built blog, but donâ€t want to pay for it, why not download a free theme and tweak the code a little so it appears unique?

Put up an Opt-In form that your readers can use to give you their e-mail addresses. This is a different technique than sending posts you add to your blog to them: this one allows you to contact them directly and provide useful information or ideas, to survey them, give advice , and a lot more.

You must understand that there are millions of people who turn to the internet in search of answers that they want for whatever reason; you can be the one that helps them solve their problem or answer their question. Furthermore, email marketing can help you grow your business faster than almost anything else available.
